9 Reasons why you should take Liquid Vitamins or Minerals

We understand that nutrition is individual. Not everyone has the same needs in terms of the nutrients that are key for them, the optimal amount to support their health, or how they prefer or need to take their supplements. In fact the way we want to take our supplements is changing with people often preferring to combine different supplements into one dose, often blending it into a juice or smoothie for taste and convenience.

The Pro-Child Study: Exploring the Link Between Probiotics and Respiratory Health

Children are at high risks of catching infections such as colds and flus due to their immature immune systems, and being in environments such as schools and nurseries where infections can be passed on easily from one child to another. The prescription of antibiotics to children in the UK is 700 prescriptions/1000 children per year.[i] It is suggested that 30% of antibiotic prescriptions are unnecessary as many of these infections are caused by viruses including common colds, bronchitis and sinus and ear infections, whereby an antibiotic (antibacterial) will be ineffective.[ii]

Fats of the Matter

We have an ongoing personal health ‘energy crisis’, brought about by modern diet and lifestyle. The resulting metabolic dysfunction from this persistent homeostatic challenge is a major contributing factor to a whole host of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular and neurodegenerative conditions. The media is full of theories about how we can improve this through paleo or keto diets, or even fasting. Alessandro Ferretti explores how some of the key players including diet, appetite, stress and reduced sleep have such a profound physiological effect. Why is obesity on the rise and what practical diet and lifestyle strategies can we employ with patients, to turn this crisis around? 2 hours CPD

Bacterial Relations - Exploring the relationship between the vaginal microbiome and female hormones

There are intricate relations between the microbes in our gut, those in the vaginal canal & the female hormones. These complex biological ecosystems are in continuous communication with each other, maintaining reproductive health and hormone metabolism. But throughout a woman’s life, the balance of this delicate ecosystem can be easily disrupted by constant hormonal shifts during the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and menopause, as well as being affected by dietary habits, and use of cosmetics or medications. How do we encourage a robust and diverse vaginal microbiome to prevent and manage common vaginal infections? And how do we adapt our support to the challenges of hormonal fluctuations at different stages of a woman’s life?

In this webinar, Jules Cattell examines the crosstalk between the vaginal microbiome and female hormones, and discusses key nutritional protocols for vaginal infections such as bacterial vaginosis and candidiasis, whilst Dr Golnoush Golshirazi, the founder of ScreenMe, introduces us to vaginal health testing, exploring different types of testing available and their uses and limitations. 2 hours CPD

The Gut, Unravelled

Time to get to the core of all human physiology as we unravel the complex subject of gut health and its multifaceted links with other systems! Gut is our ‘outside inside’, the metabolic interface where two complex biological and chemical worlds interact in a dynamic, hybrid ecosystem, part human, part other.

Its active barrier function enables it to play multiple roles sensing, defending, ingesting, detoxifying, and creating, such that gut impacts everything, and everything can impact the gut. In this webinar, we examine the adaptive role of the gut, taking a holistic ecological perspective and focusing on the importance of digestion & absorption. We’ll specifically zoom in on the various digestive secretions like stomach acid, digestive enzymes & bile, using practical examples and clinical protocols to support general maldigestion, GERD, ulcers, and gallbladder dysfunction.

Fast & Furious – Calming Down an Overactive Mind Webinar

We live in a world of excess & overstimulation; busy lifestyles, multiple demands, long to do lists, high expectations, stimulants, highly palatable foods, technology, and constant notifications... Can our brains sustain that demand? Such stimulation leads to an upregulation of our sympathetic nervous response, raising our adrenaline, noradrenaline, dopamine, glutamate & cortisol. If prolonged, because of an inability to return to a parasympathetic state, or perhaps because of slow neurotransmitter detoxification, it can put our nervous system into constant overdrive, often making us feel irritated, stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, unable to sleep, or even furious at times.

Our expert in this area, Alessandro Ferretti, will explore the key concepts, research, and nutritional and lifestyle interventions to support your clients with anxiety, ADHD, OCD, and addictive tendencies.

Drug:Supplement Interactions Webinar

Do you often find yourself scrolling through long lists of drug:nutrient interactions and end up even more confused? Most of our clients take at least 1 medication, not to mention the complex cases of polypharmacy we see a lot more often these days. Whilst working out the best therapeutic plan for our clients, we also have to ensure that the supplements we recommend are safe with medication, but many of us lack confidence in this complex area.

In this informative and practical webinar, Jacqui Dougan, a highly experienced Pharmacist & Nutritional Therapist, is going to explore drug:nutrient interactions and nutrient depletions for commonly used medications such as statins, blood thinners, antacids, antidiabetic, hormonal, and antidepressant medication, amongst others. To complement Jacqui’s theory, Marta will provide a helpful overview of key BioCare supplements that can be used alongside medications to support your clients safely and to avoid depletions and side effects.

Everything You Need To Know About Vitamin D

With the reduction in daily sunlight exposure, and the higher risk of infection during the cooler months, it is essential that we work towards optimising our vitamin D status for immune and bone support in particular.

The bare minimum requirement for adequate vitamin D synthesis is sufficient daily exposure of our skin to sunlight. It therefore comes as no surprise that 25% of the UK population may be deficient, especially when you consider that we live in the northern hemisphere with heavily indoors-based lifestyles, particularly during the year 2020! It is therefore vital that we increase our daily intake of vitamin D over these cooler months to mitigate for our reduced ability to make enough of this nutrient at this time of the year.

How We Can Support You

In these unprecedented times, we all need to adapt to the situation, not least how we live, shop, and work. Whilst we at BioCare have remained open for businesses, we are aware that many of you may be struggling in different ways. We therefore wanted to remind you that we are here to support you.

We work closely with holistic practitioners, advising and educating them, to help them play their important role in shaping a healthier society. For this reason, we recently conducted a Practitioner Survey to get an insight into how they are coping given the current situation. Whilst some results were specific to practitioners, actually a large proportion of them are relevant to us all. What stood out was people wanting more product advice, help with their accounts, being informed of product changes and what’s in stock, and receiving news and education about health and nutrition.

We are committed to supporting all of our customers, so here are a few things we can do for you.

Vitamin C Powder - Top Tips From Our Nutrition Team

Vitamin C has multiple benefits for our body, from supporting healthy skin and energy production to promoting a strong immune system. Whilst many foods contain vitamin C, it is increasingly evident, given the trials and tribulations of modern day living, that we are not getting nearly enough to meet individual needs. Stress is around every corner and we are subjected to many environmental toxins and microbes in the home and outdoors. The food we eat is often depleted in nutrients and the state of our health is declining constantly with chronic disease. Therefore our nutrient demands are ever increasing, and this includes the need for vitamin C.

Vitamin C is a water-soluble nutrient and is therefore not stored in the body, so the body needs a constant supply. With the growing demands of the modern world we are much more prone to having a lower vitamin C status. Some of the many reasons for this are:

Given the above, one thing is clear; we need to put back what is missing to make up for the deficit.

While there are different vitamin C products, a favourite amongst practitioners and our Nutrition Team is Vitamin C Powder.

How To Choose And Use A Multinutrient

Are you confused about multinutrients? Trying to decipher which one would be best for you, or if you actually need one? If chosen well, multinutrients can be an incredibly powerful tool to support many aspects of life, from stress, to immunity, and hormone balance. They can also support different life stages, such as fertility (male and female), pregnancy, and menopause. A carefully formulated complex containing therapeutic doses of nutrients that are easily absorbed and used by the body, is so much more than just a bog standard supplement.

Methylation

Everything You Need To Know About Methylation

Perhaps one of the most critical processes that underpins our health and wellbeing is methylation. This relatively simple chemical process, occurs billions of times every second, and is important for the proper functioning of virtually all body systems. It's a process that is called upon a lot when we are under stress, so can potentially become depleted. The research into methylation and related genetic mutations that may predispose people to an array of symptoms and chronic disease, has exploded in the last 10 years.

A good understanding of methylation is just as important for health practitioners, who want to provide a personalised plan for their clients, as it is for each one of us, enabling us to take charge of our own health and wellbeing. Knowing how to support this process with diet and lifestyle is key to achieving optimum health and hopefully preventing disease.

Our thoughts and actions today will have an influence on whether this year makes or breaks us as a global community, and how it is remembered by future generations. While some have rejoiced in the idea of working from the comfort of their home and continued to work relatively as normal, others have been severely affected financially, physically, and/or mentally. There is no doubt that the current pandemic has affected us all, in one way or another.

As we enter this new phase of trying to go back to work and back to school, we are also avidly following the latest news updates and many of us are growing concerned about what the future holds. Now is an opportune time to reflect on how we have been doing so far during this pandemic, how we can best support ourselves moving forwards, and how we can grow through this experience, stronger and wiser.
