Vitamin C has multiple benefits for our body, from supporting healthy skin and energy production to promoting a strong immune system. Whilst many foods contain vitamin C, it is increasingly evident, given the trials and tribulations of modern day living, that we are not getting nearly enough to meet individual needs. Stress is around every corner and we are subjected to many environmental toxins and microbes in the home and outdoors. The food we eat is often depleted in nutrients and the state of our health is declining constantly with chronic disease. Therefore our nutrient demands are ever increasing, and this includes the need for vitamin C.
Vitamin C is a water-soluble nutrient and is therefore not stored in the body, so the body needs a constant supply. With the growing demands of the modern world we are much more prone to having a lower vitamin C status. Some of the many reasons for this are:
Given the above, one thing is clear; we need to put back what is missing to make up for the deficit.
While there are different vitamin C products, a favourite amongst practitioners and our Nutrition Team is Vitamin C Powder.

What do our nutritionists say about it?
“Sometimes, the psychology of taking too many capsules in a day can make me feel a little negative - like I’m taking medicines. So, I love powders because I really don’t have the same mental association! They feel more like a nutritious drink! They can be mixed easily into liquids and I like being in control of how much I take day to day, as per my varying needs. In the evening after dinner, I mix my Vitamin C Powder, Cleanse NutriPowder and Magnesium Powder into some lukewarm water and sip away. I love the fact that I can mix these all together and get their goodness, all in one go. I have also found the Vitamin C Powder specifically useful for toothache, I recently had some excruciating wisdom tooth pain and so tried mixing a large sprinkle of the vitamin C powder into a small amount of water and swirled this around my mouth for a good few minutes (almost like oil pulling), this helped soothe the pain and relieved the headache that came with it too.”
“I keep a pot of Vitamin C Powder on my desk near my water bottle and I add a pinch of vitamin C to my water every time I fill up my bottle. I find that having that small but regular intake of vitamin C really helps with my immune system and it’s also a good incentive to stay hydrated!”
“I love Vitamin C Powder and have used it for years with all my family members. I love how simple it is, yet very effective and versatile. When I’ve got a cold, I often juice a lot of fresh ginger and turmeric root with lemon, sometimes with a bit of apple to soften it down a little. Then I add a pinch of Vitamin C Powder to it and keep it in the fridge to use throughout the day. Vitamin C is a strong antioxidant, therefore acting as a preservative, so it will keep it fresh for longer. When you’re ready to drink it, mix some local honey into lukewarm water, add a tablespoon or so of your juice, add more vitamin C, and you’ve got a potent, healing drink to soothe your throat and support your immune system.
I also use it with my son as he is at the age when he likes to be in control of what he is taking and giving him supplements is not as easy as it used to be when he was little. So I add some Vitamin C Powder to his water bottle he takes to school and he doesn’t even notice. If you’re going to do that, make sure you are not using a transparent bottle (like glass, and definitely not plastic), as vitamin C is damaged by light. Stainless steel or a glass one with a sleeve is best.”
