To Chill or not to Chill? The truth about live bacteria

For many years, if you went to a health shop, you could only find our live bacteria products in the fridge. And indeed this had been the case for most of the really effective products out there.

More recently however, you may have seen more live bacteria products out on the shelf, including our very own Everyday BioAcidophilus, Children's Red Berry BioMelts™ and our new BioPlantarum Plus Sterols.

So how come we are able to do that? And why are some of the BioCare^® products still in the fridge?

The fact is, all live bacteria are sensitive to heat, light and moisture. Not just ours, but everyone’s. There’s no such thing as live bacteria that are more stable at room temperature. They all benefit from being chilled and they will basically deteriorate more quickly at room temperature. That’s why our really strong products are still in the fridge. To use the high quality bacteria we do, at those strengths, they still need refrigeration to help keep them at their most potent possible.

Improvements in technology have meant that we can begin to make some products stable at room temperature though and give them an even longer life of 18 months. For one thing, we use a specialist freeze-drying process to preserve the bacteria. We also add in extra numbers of bacteria to help to maintain their high potency. Together, this gives our existing and new customers a more convenient option to buy the best live bacteria product available. We think everyone should use BioCare^® live bacteria.

So for convenience and effectiveness, you have the new, advanced, shelf stable products Everyday BioAcidophilus, Children's Red Berry BioMelts™ and our new BioPlantarum Plus Sterols. And if high potency is your aim, the same great BioAcidophilus products are still available in the fridge!
